A few days ago after a major storm, I discovered a mysterious object sticking out of the sand close to the sea.
This area is known to contain a burial ground since ancient times long before Christianity was imposed in Iceland in the year 1000 A.D.
My ancestor, Eyjólfur “Grái” Þórðarson (Eyjolfur the Gray) born in 935 A.D. was the last “Goði” (Gothi) in Otradalur.
He was forced to accept Christianity at Þingvellir in the year 1000 A.D.
Eyjolfur Grái, was infamous for being the leader of the men who hunted down and killed Gísli Súrsson, who is the hero of one of the icelandic sagas – Gisla Saga.
The mysterious object looks to me like it could be the the hilt of a Viking sword.
I have contacted the Archaeological Authorities and will have their answer soon.
If anyone has a better idea of what this could really be, I would be pleased if you would comment.
Today was very warm, more than 15° C and it was necessary to cool down.
One of several waterfalls in Otradalur made the perfect cold shower.
Due to recent warm weather, the water temperature was quite reasonable.
A happy fisherman shows a Salmon Trout caught from my shores today.
My Finnish visitors expressed a desire to have a cold shower after a hard day of sightseeing.
I took them to our waterfall in Otradalur´s River where it is possible to have a nice shower and swim in the pool.
Water temperature is a chilling 4° C and it was obvious that they were experienced winter bathers.
One (warm) day I will take the plunge myself…
Indescribable beauty around midnight…
