I am experimenting with High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography and this is the result of today´s session at the beach in Otradalur.

Today the weather was nice although a storm rages in most of the rest of the country.

The first Ground Source Heat Pump installed in Iceland is now operational in Otradalur.

The company Velaverk was in charge of the  project which was also supported with a grant by Orkustofnun – National Energy Authority of Iceland .

The ground system uses 1 km of 32mm plastic pipe in the ground at an average depth of 2 meters.   These pipes are filled with an ethylene glycol mixture which will not freeze above -15°C.

It is therefore possible to transfer heat from the ground even if the ground was frozen solid.  This energy is used to heat up the house in Otradalur.

The Heat Pump is a single phase Viessmann Vitocal 200 with a heating capacity of 10 KW.  Brochure .

An article about Heat Pump technology may be found here .

Ground breaking heat pump machine

The Vitocal 200 is the latest ground source heat pump to be introduced by Viessmann.

The unit has an output of 6.1kW to 9.7kW and flow temperatures up to 60°C, making it suitable for radiator systems as well as underfloor.

Brine and heating system pumps and the diverter valve are included, making installation more straightforward.

The model features a weather compensation tool, allowing the water temperature to follow the outside air

I accidentally managed to lock one of the cats in the radio shack for a whole week when I travelled to Reykjavik two months ago.   The cat did not seem any worse after the experience, he was a bit overweight anyway – I think the fasting was good for him, but he managed to destroy the radio shack completely.

I have washed the floors and cables numerous times, even with a special enzyme cleaner which is supposed to eliminate smells but the stink remains.

After this the three cats have peed and pooped all over the house which now reeks of urine.

I have thrown the cats out of the house, they will live the rest of their lives in the outbuildings and survive on a natural diet of mice and the occasional cat food dish I will put out.

I do not foresee TF4M to be much active until the garage has been renovated and the equipment moved there.

I hope that in time the smell will subside in the radio shack as it gets aired out.

This winter I lost several hens and ducks to a predator.  I asked the pest control officer to come by and see if he could find the culprit and his dogs did not take long to find him.   It turned  out that the Mink had made his home in my garden.  Some time later a female mink with 9 whelps was found and killed near my house.
