I looked out the shack window and witnessed an awesome sight.

A massive rain squall was coming towards the station and it turned the sky partly pitch black – incredibly dramatic and a rare moment of excitement for me.

By the time I had changed the lens and got the camera ready the drama was gone and the squall was right over the farm…..

I snapped one photo into the darkness for good measure and this is the result –  I was not able to remove the sleet drops on the lens in processing.

These are the Panorama photos I used to make the Virtual Tour.

Today´s photos…

The annual Quadrantid meteors  entered our atmosphere at 250 miles per second on the morning of January 4, 2012.

They typically vaporize about 50 miles above Earth’s surface, creating the streaks of light we see as a meteor shower.

I got up very early, went outside in the freezing cold and took hundreds of photographs in the darkness.

I witnessed several beautiful meteors, but only one of those was caught by the camera.

In February, I received the following message from a Canadian artist.

Hi!
I’m an artist working on a charity project for a wildlife center here in Montreal and my project is to create a website for the shelter. I was looking for a great background for the pages of the site and went on a search online for a beautiful sky – I found your photographs to be amazing and was hoping I could have your permission to use an image from your northern lights photos for the website. I/we would greatly appreciate your donation of one of your great images. Please let me know, thanks!

Jesse Allarie

I was very pleased that somebody liked my photos and permission was immediately granted.

The site is now live and may be viewed at  Urban Animal Advocates  – my photo was used as the background for the site.   It certainly looks beautiful.
